with twenty pigs and three times as many chickens, they
say you can secure a space on this rock for the rest of
your afterlife.

the guidebook says -- and i quote: "over one-hundred
coffins are stacked in the entrance, the oldest believed
to be about five-hundred years old."
i couldn't resist... i had to check one of these out.
and i did. only, i peered through the cracks of one. i half-heartedly
tried to lift the lid, of course, but the superstitious filipino in me beat
my curiosity. but that's beside the point. the point is, there really
are corpses inside these coffins. curled in a fetal position.

we weren't properly equipped to venture the four-hour tour, but,
we managed to take a quick dip in one of the few indoor pools.
this one was, by far, the biggest -- about three-stories deep
and cold as ice.
